Simple Prompts That Generate Better Headlines

Simple Prompts That Generate Better Headlines

Newspaper headlines

Headline writing has gotten complicated with all the formulas and click-bait warnings flying around. As someone who has tested thousands of headlines across different platforms, I learned everything there is to know about AI-generated titles that actually work. Today, I will share it all with you.

Headlines determine whether your content gets read. AI can generate dozens of options in seconds, but the prompts you use matter enormously.

Probably should have led with this section, honestly. Start with your core topic and ask for headlines that create curiosity without clickbait. Specify whether you want numbered lists, how-to formats, or question-based titles.

Include your target audience in the prompt. Headlines for beginners differ from those targeting experts. Context shapes language choices and complexity levels. That is what makes audience specification endearing to us content creators — it transforms generic headlines into targeted ones.

Request variations that emphasize different benefits. One headline might focus on saving time while another highlights avoiding mistakes. Testing multiple angles reveals what resonates with your readers.

Ask the AI to avoid overused words like “ultimate,” “amazing,” or “incredible.” These generic terms diminish impact. Specific, concrete language performs better.

Finally, generate more headlines than you need. Having twenty options lets you pick the strongest three for testing rather than settling for the first decent idea that appears.
